Melbourne Rotary donates funds to Cubbies for heating and cooling
Cubbies is open for 360 days per year (we close for Christmas Day, Good Friday, New Years Day and a few other holidays). Given Melbourne’s variable weather this means we are open when its is freezing cold in winter and on extremely hot summer days. In the past when the temperature gets above 35 degrees we have had to close and send the children home; much to their disappointment. The Rotary Club of Melbourne have come to our aid providing a grant that has enabled us to install a reverse cycle air conditioner.
The unit was installed by Reditek and is now ready to keep the Hut building comfortable for our programs.
African dancing at Cubbies
Thanks to support from the City of Yarra’s Creative Yarra program and a donation from the Helen McPherson Smith Trust local dance instructor Suzie Watts from Mzuri Dance has been taking weekly African dance classes. The classes are free to children registered to attend Cubbies.
The girls have been performing at community events and learning dressmaking skills designing and making their own costumes.
