The Fitzroy Adventure Playground (Cubbies) opened its gates in 1974, providing children living in the local area with a ‘backyard’ space in which they can play freely and creatively to pursue personal development and growth. The playground is committed to the principle of self-directed play that involves an element of risk-taking through which children can learn valuable life skills, develop strong social networks and build resilience. Our workers actively encourage, support and supervise children’s play activities, and we provide all program supplies at no cost to participants and families.
We value the role of play in the development of confident, healthy and happy young people.
Article 31 of the UN Declaration on The Rights of The Child states:
“States parties recognise the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.”
